Qualifying for Care
People with serious illness choose hospice when cure is unlikely and they want care that will support their quality of life.
A patient can be admitted to hospice when:
- The patient or patient representative chooses hospice care
- Two doctors (Montgomery Hospice's and one other) agree hospice is appropriate
Hospice patients can reside anywhere. Most hospice care occurs at home because that is where people usually prefer to live. Hospice care can also come to people who live in extended care facilities, such as assisted living centers or nursing homes.
Under Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance regulations, patients who need 24-hour care and assistance may be eligible for inpatient care.
