Position Summary:

Participates in the provision of quality meals and nutritional services to patients and guests. Maintains work area in a clean and healthy state according to sanitation regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Special training in sanitation and quantity food preparation required.
  • Licensure/Certification: Certification as Food Service Manager in Montgomery County
  • Experience: Two years experience in institutional cooking, healthcare environment preferred. Ability to prepare special diets as ordered.

Additional Skills:

  • Must be able to concentrate on work amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; must be able to consistently meet deadlines to finish all food preparations at specified serving times.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend recipes or instructions.
  • Must be able to convert and adjust mathematical measurements for recipe adjustments.
  • Must be able to operate kitchen equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparation of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks as planned by Dietitian Consultant.
  • Maintains high standards of quality food production and portion control.
  • Uses approved menus and recipes.
  • Food is tasty and attractively served.
  • Demonstrates the ability to estimate preparation and cooking time to ensure the adherence to meal schedules.
  • Prepares “special diet” meals as indicated.
  • Planning allows for minimum waste.
  • Flexible and creative in meeting dietary needs of patients.
  • Prepares food for special functions.
  • Follows safe food handling standards
  • Ensures preparation and handling of food is in accordance with sanitary regulations and safe work habits.
  • Ensures proper storage of perishable foods.
  • Takes and records food temperatures at mealtimes.
  • Covers, labels and dates all suitable leftovers for storage.
  • Takes and records temperature of refrigerators.
  • Properly cleans and sanitizes work area and equipment.
  • May assist in the ordering of supplies and in coordinating cooks’ schedules.
  • Consults with dietitian on menus and special diets.
  • With assistance of other cooks, determines needs and orders accordingly.
  • Ensures schedule is covered at all times.
  • All other duties as assigned.
