Hospice Physician/ APPLY

Position Summary:

Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice is looking for a full-time Hospice Physician to join our team to help gentle the journey for our patients who are facing terminal illness.

The Hospice Physician is responsible for helping to establish, review, coordinate and manage the medical care provided to the patients on assigned interdisciplinary teams. They will also be responsible for initial certifications and recertifications with documentation of physician narratives.

The Hospice Physician will be available for consultation for the Hospice at Home and Casey House interdisciplinary teams during core business hours as well as assigned call shifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a current license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland.
  • Board certification in related specialty, certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (ABHPM) preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as a practicing physician.
  • Knowledgeable about the psychosocial and medical aspects of hospice care.
  • Supports and identifies with Montgomery Hospice’s philosophy and its interdisciplinary approach to patient care planning and delivery.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills and ability to exercise good judgement in emergency situations and ability to maintain effectiveness in a stressful environment.

Nursing Services

Hospice Admissions RN/ APPLY

Position Summary:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assesses patients and family needs.
  • Develops an effective working relationship with representatives from other agencies who provide services for assigned patients.
  • Identifies and recommends medical equipment and supplies that will assist in maintaining patient’s comfort and caregivers’ ability to provide care.
  • Identifies the need for additional services, including nutritional assessment, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy and initiates appropriate referrals.

Receptionist/ APPLY

Position Summary:

Responsible for answering, screening, and transferring all calls. Functions of this position include greeting and attending to visitors; sorting and distributing mail; handling/receiving; sending packages/deliveries; maintaining reception area; and processing administrative assignments as required. Timeliness and regular attendance are critical for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Logs into automatic call distribution system on arrival and maintains available status.
  • Sends outlook text messages to appropriate clinical teams when required, enters calendar entry reminder, and changes entry when resolved.
  • Maintains awareness of queue light and retrieves calls quickly from the queue.
  • Assist in coordinating services with the answering services by transferring and retrieving phone lines daily.
  • Provides clerical support for the agency by completing various administrative projects as requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Some college or business school preferred.
  • Two to five years of clerical experience, preferably with Microsoft Office experience and experience answering multi-line phone.
  • Typing 50 wpm.
  • Excellent communication/verbal skills.

Intake Administrative Assistant/ APPLY

Position Summary:

  • Monitors and orders office supplies for department, maintains adequate supply to meet staff needs.

Casey House 

Hospice RN – Per Diem/ APPLY

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing skilled nursing care to the terminally ill patients at Casey House. To provide evidenced based nursing care to provide symptom management and emotional support in an inpatient setting. Exhibits expert end-of-life care and provides supervision to Hospice Aides.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides nursing care for hospice patients admitted to Casey House.
  • Implements nursing plans of care for assigned patients.
  • Completes all documentation within agency guidelines and in accordance with agency standards.
  • Required to work one summer and one winter holiday.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. B.S.N preferred.
  • Current State of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred.
  • One year of recent clinical nursing experience in medical-surgical, oncology or critical care environment. Previous hospice experience preferred.

  • Follows standards for safe food handling by ensuring that the preparation and handling of food are in accordance with sanitary food regulations.

Position Summary:

Promotes the value of hospice services offered by Prince George’s Hospice by maintaining a professional presence in a hospital setting to facilitate the referral of patients to Prince George’s Hospice from physician practices, hospitals nursing homes, long-term care facilities, other community agencies and managed care companies. Provides information/ education related to hospice and palliative care to patients, families and hospital staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promotes an increased understanding of services and programs to appropriate health-related audiences through one-on-one contact, attends meetings and responds to inquiries.
  • Meets with physicians, hospital discharge planners, nursing home social workers, and liaisons to assure services are meeting needs of referred patients and families.
  • Attends discharge planning rounds, educational programs, case conferences and staff meetings at hospitals as appropriate.
  • Maintains records of all contacts and requests for information.
  • Participates in assessing, planning, implementation and evaluating policies to ensure efficient referral processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing program. B.S.N preferred or M.S.W with LCSW-C Maryland License.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent clinical experience required. Some Hospice experience required.
  • Knowledge of state, federal and regulatory standards, including Joint Commission standards as it applies to hospice organizations.
  • Excellent written and communications strongly preferred.

Our benefits include:

Comprehensive medical coverage for individuals and dependents is available for staff scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week. You may select from HMOs, Preferred Provider Organizations or Point of Service plans. Coverage begins the first day of the month following your date of hire.

Coverage is available for you and your dependents. Coverage includes preventive, basic and major services.

Employees who are scheduled for 30 hours or more are automatically covered by short-term and long-term disability coverage. The organization will pay the full premium for this valuable benefit.

Vision benefits are available to you and your family for employees regularly scheduled for 20 hours or more per week.

Life insurance is available for employees who are scheduled for 20 hours or more per week. You may cover yourself and your spouse from $10,000 to $300,000 depending on medical eligibility.

Employees scheduled to work 16 hours or more are eligible for prorated paid leave.

  • Employees accrue paid vacation, at the rate of 13 days for the first year, increasing to 20 days in the fifth year.
  • Employees accrue 10 days per year of sick leave to be used for yourself and family illnesses.
  • We offer 7 paid holidays each year and 4 personal days.

Confidential counseling and referral service is available to all employees, their spouses and dependents. Services are provided through LifeWork Strategies, a division of Adventist Healthcare and include 24/7 access to a toll-free help line, assessment by professional counselors, referrals to EAP counselors and community based resources. It also includes resource and referral services for child care, senior care, legal and financial consultation.
The organization has a policy for donating or requesting leave for employees who exhausted their own leave because of a health crisis of their own or a family member.
All employees are eligible to participate in a voluntary Tax Sheltered Annuity [403(b)] through Vanguard as a means of saving for retirement.
Eligible employees have access to a Health Care Reimbursement Account and/or a Dependent Care Reimbursement Account. This allows you to set aside funds, on a pre-tax basis, for reimbursement for health care or dependent care expenses.

Staff will be reimbursed for hospice-related travel at the current IRS rate.
The agency encourages nurses to apply for certification as a hospice and palliative nurse (CHPN) and nursing assistants as hospice and palliative care nursing assistants (CHPNA) through the certification process of the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses. Social workers are also eligible for a national Hospice and Palliative Certification. The organization will pay for the exam and award a 5% pay increase for certification.

Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice recognizes the importance of continuing staff development, and supports a program of education and in-service training for hospice staff. This includes tuition for conferences and workshops and paid education days.
