We employ RNs, certified nursing assistants, social workers, counselors, physicians and chaplains, as well as professional and supportive administrative staff. We are proud to offer high-quality, compassionate care to patients and their families throughout Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.

Prince George’s Hospice Current Job Openings

Registered Nurse: Case Manager / APPLY

Position Summary:

Functioning as a member of an interdisciplinary team, responsible for providing case management and primary nursing care to assigned patients and formulating and implementing nursing plan of care consistent with standards of practice. Reports to Clinical Manager for Prince George’s Hospice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides case management for hospice patients.
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing plans of care for assigned caseload on a weekly basis.
  • Provides primary nursing services for assigned patients.
  • Actively participates in and supports the interdisciplinary plan of care
  • Serves as contact person of the day, alternating with other team members.
  • Completes all documentation within agency guidelines and in accordance with agency standards.
  • Maintains contact with primary physicians in accordance with agency policies and in keeping with physician’s request.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current State of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred.
  • Two years of recent clinical experience, preferably with critical care or previous experience in a hospice or an end of life program.
  • Experience in Oncology or Intensive Care is highly recommended
  • Requires strong critical thinking skills and EMR experience.
  • Bilingual in French and/or Spanish is highly recommended.

Nursing Services

Visit Nurse / APPLY

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing patient care services. Makes planned and unplanned visits as assigned. Responsible for implementing plan of care consistent with standards of practice. May assess patients and families who request admission to Montgomery Hospice to determine appropriateness for admission to hospice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Make planned and unplanned visits to current hospice patients.
  • Ensures implementation of the plan of care.
  • Develops effective working relationships with representatives from other agencies who provide services for assigned patients.
  • Provides nursing services to hospice patients by effectively solving problems using critical thinking skills and able to demonstrate proficiency in anticipating symptom management needs.
  • Provides initial assessment of hospice patients by coordinating with other disciplines as appropriate.
  • Completes all documentation within agency guidelines and in accordance with agency guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. B.S.N preferred.
  • Current State of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred.
  • Two years of recent clinical experience, preferably with critical care or previous experience in a hospice or homecare program.

Casey House

Hospice Nurse / APPLY

Position Summary:

Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides nursing care to provide symptom management and emotional support in an inpatient setting, addressing physical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care. Formulates and implement the nursing plan of care that is consistent with the standards and practices. Requires availability for 12-hour shifts (7p-7a). Extensive orientation for acute care hospice nursing but must be flexible and available for multiple shifts per month.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides skilled nursing care for all Casey House patients by performing a thorough assessment of patient’s physical needs using effective nursing skills and judgment.
  • Ability to manage pain and control symptoms.
  • Identifies learning needs of patients/ family, teaching proper drug scheduling, personal care skills, including cares of the dying patients, the disease process and effects and side effects of medications.
  • Accurately administers prescribed medications, both routine, and PRN as indicated by patient assessment.
  • Performs specific treatments as ordered by the physician.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. B.S.N preferred.
  • Current State of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred
  • Minimum one year of recent clinical nursing experience in medical-surgical, oncology or critical care environment. Previous hospice experience strongly preferred.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to communicate effectively with patients and families under stress.

Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice offers generous benefits and ongoing support and development for the people who give so much of themselves to serve our community.

Our benefits include:

Comprehensive medical coverage for individuals and dependents is available for staff scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week. You may select from HMOs, Preferred Provider Organizations or Point of Service plans. Coverage begins the first day of the month following your date of hire.

Coverage is available for you and your dependents. Coverage includes preventive, basic and major services.

Employees who are scheduled for 30 hours or more are automatically covered by short-term and long-term disability coverage. The organization will pay the full premium for this valuable benefit.

Vision benefits are available to you and your family for employees regularly scheduled for 20 hours or more per week.

Life insurance is available for employees who are scheduled for 20 hours or more per week. You may cover yourself and your spouse from $10,000 to $300,000 depending on medical eligibility.

Employees scheduled to work 16 hours or more are eligible for prorated paid leave.

  • Employees accrue paid vacation, at the rate of 13 days for the first year, increasing to 20 days in the fifth year.
  • Employees accrue 10 days per year of sick leave to be used for yourself and family illnesses.
  • We offer 6 paid holidays each year and four personal days.
  • We offer up to 5 days of bereavement leave.
Confidential counseling and referral service is available to all employees, their spouses and dependents. Services are provided through LifeWork Strategies, a division of Adventist Healthcare and include 24/7 access to a toll-free help line, assessment by professional counselors, referrals to EAP counselors and community based resources. It also includes resource and referral services for child care, senior care, legal and financial consultation.
The organization has a policy for donating or requesting leave for employees who exhausted their own leave because of a health crisis of their own or a family member.
All employees are eligible to participate in a voluntary Tax Sheltered Annuity [403(b)] through Vanguard as a means of saving for retirement.

Staff will be reimbursed for hospice-related travel at the current IRS rate.
The agency encourages nurses to apply for certification as a hospice and palliative nurse (CHPN) and nursing assistants as hospice and palliative care nursing assistants (CHPNA) through the certification process of the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses. Social workers are also eligible for a national Hospice and Palliative Certification. The organization will pay for the exam and award a 5% pay increase for certification.

Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice recognizes the importance of continuing staff development, and supports a program of education and in-service training for hospice staff. This includes tuition for conferences and workshops and paid education days.
