Tree of Lights 2025

Commemorate a loved one or honor someone who has touched your life by participating in the 2025 Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice Tree of Lights.

Each year, the ceremony provides the opportunity to remember friends and family during the season of Thanksgiving. Your commemoration enables our organization to care for anyone with a life-limiting illness, regardless of ability to pay.

There are many ways to support Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice. Each and every contribution you make can be made in memory of or in honor of a friend or loved one.

In honor of Casey House’s 25th Anniversary, the Eugene B. Casey Foundation has announced a $1,000,000 1:1 matching pledge challenge for the Casey House Endowment for Nursing and Nursing Aides. For every dollar raised, they will match up to $1,000,000!

Each year, hundreds of patients and their loved ones receive compassionate and expert care provided by a dedicated and mission-driven team at Casey House. Proceeds from this endowment will help us to retain and hire the best nurses and nursing aides, who are at the heart of the compassionate and expert care provided to our patients.

At the end of every staff meeting, Ann is known to conclude with the words “take good care.” To honor her legacy, The Take Good Care Fund was created. Proceeds will be earmarked for staff-related initiatives.

Casey House Memorial Cobblestones

Commemorate a loved one with the purchase of an engraved memorial cobblestone placed along the Memorial Walkway at Casey House. The cobblestones are available in two sizes: 10” x 4” allowing for two lines of text at a cost of $250 or 10” x 8” allowing for four lines of text at a cost of $500. Casey House Donor Wall

Individuals or families have the opportunity to honor or remember a loved one by purchasing a name-etched, glass plate for the Casey House Donor Wall. These beautiful glass plates – which support the vital work of Casey House, are available with a gift of $2,500 or more. Tree of Lights Ceremony

Commemorate a loved one or honor someone who has touched your life by participating in the Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice Tree of Lights ceremony held annually in November. This poignant ceremony provides the opportunity to remember friends and family members during the winter holiday season.

Planned giving provides you with the opportunity to make a meaningful charitable gift that also responds to your immediate and long-term financial planning. You are invited to join the Circle of Light Society, which recognizes individuals who have included Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice in their estate plans or have established a gift using another method of planned giving. Your planned gift will help to ensure the availability of our services for future generations.

Donations of appreciated stocks and securities are a great option for making a donation. If you have owned stock for at least one year, you are entitled to a tax deduction of the fair market value of the stock on the date of transfer and may also be entitled to capital gains relief.

Making a gift of stock or appreciated securities directly to Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice offers advantages to you. First, you will receive the satisfaction of knowing that you have made an investment in an organization that provides compassionate care and support to those who are approaching the end of life. Secondly, you will receive a charitable gift deduction and may also receive capital gains relief.

If you have owned stock for a period of time that has seen a lot of growth and you wish to sell it, you will have to pay capital gains taxes on the difference between the purchase price and selling price. Donating the stock directly to Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice will provide you with a tax deduction based on the fair market value of the security (an average of the high and low price of the stock on the day it is donated). Making a direct donation of the stock also saves you the capital gains tax you would have incurred by selling it yourself.

If you have owned stock for at least one year, here is the procedure for making a gift of the stock:

    5. Instruct your broker to contact Christine Fields, Donor Relations Associate, in the Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice Philanthropy Office at (301) 921-4400 to alert her of the gift’s transfer.
  2. Have your broker advise Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice where the gift is to be assigned or of any special instructions. Or you may also call the Philanthropy Office to advise where the gift should be designated (i.e. to a specific fund or in memory/honor of a loved one).

Montgomery Hospice, Inc. dba Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice partners with Community First – America’s Charities of Greater Washington, D.C. to facilitate workplace giving campaigns at area businesses and government agencies. We participate in the Combined Federal Campaign (#85936), Montgomery County Employee Giving Campaign, Maryland Charity Campaign for state employees, and many private employers’ campaigns.
