Open Letter from the Board of Directors

June 10, 2020

As members of the community, we share the indignation and anger of our country over the systemic and institutional racism that has pervaded our society for many years. Disparities have impacted our communities of color in an unreasonable manner. As business leaders and employers, we share the responsibility to drive the change we want to see in our society – the change our communities deserve to live in.

As part of the healthcare community, our mission is and will always be to gentle the journey through serious illness and loss with skill and compassion, and our core values of dignity, compassion, dedication, and collaboration will remain the guiding principles of our care. It is because of these values that we recognize the urgent need for a greater commitment from all of us.

The Board of Directors of Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice is determined to lead by example, and it is strengthening its dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion among all levels within our organization. Our Senior Leadership continues to train in racial equity, and in time this will expand to the rest of the organization.

We want to amplify the voices of our community. We will continue to care for our patients and their families and keep working toward building an organization where inclusion, respect, cultural equity and competence are woven into the foundation of our care.
