Position Summary:
The Philanthropy Associate is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of individual, foundation, and corporate donors while supporting Montgomery & Prince George’s Hospice’s annual fundraising and donor stewardship efforts. This relationship-focused position serves as a frontline fundraiser responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors capable of making annual gifts ranging from $1,000 to $25,000, while also managing a portfolio of private foundations, family foundations, corporate funders, and sponsorship opportunities with giving potential of up to $25,000. Working collaboratively with philanthropy, executive leadership, program staff, communications, and volunteers, the Philanthropy Associate develops meaningful donor relationships that deepen engagement, increase philanthropic investment, and create a strong pipeline of future major gift prospects. This position combines fundraising, stewardship, grant writing, and donor engagement responsibilities and is ideal for an experienced development professional seeking a broad portfolio and significant donor-facing responsibility.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Individual Giving
- Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 100–150 leadership annual gift donors and prospects.
- Develop and implement individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
- Conduct donor qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship meetings.
- Prepare gift proposals, correspondence, and impact reports.
- Identify annual donors with major gift potential and collaborate with senior leadership on appropriate moves management.
- Achieve annual fundraising and activity goals for assigned portfolio.
Foundation & Corporate Giving
- Manage a portfolio of foundation and corporate donors with annual giving potential up to $25,000.
- Research and qualify prospective institutional funders aligned with organizational priorities.
- Prepare letters of inquiry, grant proposals, sponsorship requests, and reports.
- Coordinate proposal development with clinical, finance, communications, and executive staff.
- Maintain relationships with program officers and corporate community relations professionals.
- Assist in identifying sponsorship opportunities for special events and organizational initiatives.
Cultivation & Stewardship
- Coordinate meaningful stewardship activities that strengthen donor relationships and increase retention.
- Ensure timely donor acknowledgements, impact reporting, recognition, and personalized communications.
- Develop donor engagement opportunities, including tours, cultivation events, and volunteer experiences.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to produce donor-centered stories demonstrating impact.
- Support stewardship initiatives for leadership annual donors, institutional partners, and event sponsors.
Annual Giving Support
- Assist with implementation of annual giving campaigns, including year-end, Giving Tuesday, memorial giving, anniversary appeals, and special initiatives.
- Support recurring giving and donor upgrade strategies.
- Utilize donor analytics to identify opportunities for increased giving and reactivation.
- Participate in campaign planning and evaluation.
Relationship Management & Administration
- Maintain accurate donor records, contact reports, proposal schedules, and stewardship activities within the CRM.
- Track fundraising progress against established goals.
- Prepare donor briefings and meeting materials for executive leadership.
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements and AFP ethical standards.
- Collaborate across departments to communicate philanthropic priorities and donor impact.
Success Measures
- Achievement of annual revenue goals for assigned donor portfolios.
- Growth in leadership annual giving donors ($1,000–$25,000).
- Increased foundation and corporate revenue.
- Donor retention and upgrade rates.
- Number of meaningful donor contacts and solicitations completed.
- Timeliness of grant submissions and reporting.
- Growth of qualified major gift prospects moved into the senior gift pipeline.
- Delivery of exceptional stewardship experiences that strengthen long-term donor relationships.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience.
- Demonstrated success securing gifts from individual, corporate, and/or foundation donors.
- Experience writing grant proposals or donor proposals.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong relationship-building and donor stewardship abilities.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with donor databases; Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred.
- Understanding of fundraising best practices.
