Faith and Comfort Corner

As we all work together to mitigate this pandemic through social distancing, Montgomery Hospice and Prince George’s Hospice wants to remind you that we are here for you. We are sharing words of comfort with our community. May their wisdom resonate with our hearts, and bring peace and joy to our collective journey. If you would like to share words of comfort, please visit the form below.

“Continue”, by Maya Angelou
(edited and adapted by Montgomery Hospice & Prince George’s Hospice Spiritual Counseling Department)

“My wish for you
Is that you continue
Continue

To be who and how you are
To astonish a mean world
With your acts of kindness
Continue

To allow humor to lighten the burden
Of your tender heart
Continue

To remind the people that
Each is as good as the other
And that no one is beneath
Nor above you
Continue

To remember your own…years
And look with favor upon the lost
And the least and the lonely
Continue

To put the mantel of your protection
Around the bodies of
The old and defenseless
Continue

To plant a virtual kiss of concern
On the cheek of the sick
And the aged and infirm
And count that as a
Natural action to be expected
Continue

To let gratitude be the pillow
Upon which you kneel…
Continue

To dare to love deeply…

And by doing so
You and your work
Will be able to continue
Eternally

May the work of your hands and the strength of your spirit be blessed, as we all continue.

“During this season, take the time to reflect on all your blessings and know that you are still blessed beyond measure for your maker, life, health, family and friends. With all those blessings be willing to help someone. Blessings to everyone around the world.”

“When This is Over”, by Laura Kelly Fanucci

When this is over,
may we never again
take for granted

A handshake with a stranger
Full shelves at the store
Conversations with neighbors
A crowded theater
Friday night out
The taste of communion
A routine checkup
The school rush each morning
Coffee with a friend
The stadium roaring
Each deep breath
A boring Tuesday
Life itself.

When this ends
may we find
that we have become
more like the people
we wanted to be
we were called to be
we hoped to be
and may we stay
that way — better
for each other
because of the worst.
